Paleontologian scientists have discovered in the northeast of Mexico fossil skeleton “winged” shark, living in a late chalome period. A description of the new species called Aquilolamna Milarcae, published Science Scientific Journal.
shark was more like a skate due to long fins, which reached 1.9 meters.
Paleontologists came to the conclusion that Aquilolamna Milarcae lived about 93 million years ago and probably he was fed at plankton. Comparison of her anatomy with 26 modern types of sharks showed that this species refers to the lamp-shaped detachment – the same as the white shark (Carcharodon Carcharias).
An unusual body shape is explained by the fact that the shark did not need to quickly chase the prey. Also Aquilolamna Milarcae used its fins as a stabilizer not to roll over.
Earlier in January, scholars of the University of De Field in Chicago found out that the young meghalodon is already born in large individuals. The reason for this is that in the womb, some embryos develop rapidly and begin to devour other embryos. This phenomenon is called oofagia or intrauterine cannibalism.
