Two employees of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense were arrested on charges of espionage in favor of Russia. This is reported by TASS with reference to the country’s prosecutor.
The representative of the main prosecutor’s office of Syyk Miles stated that the suspects were engaged in collecting confidential information in favor of Russia. She said that one of them studied in Moscow, and in the agency responded to the formation of a network of informants, so he had access to secret data. “His spouse, having double citizenship, was an intermediary in the contacts of the resident with representatives of the Russian Embassy,” – reported in the prosecutor’s office.
Before the arrest of several suspects in espionage in favor of Russia reported local media. The detention operation was carried out by the staff of the Bulgarian State Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Within its framework on the road from Sofia on the tracia highway, the police checked the documents from all drivers. So law enforcement officers were able to arrest one of their suspects.
Previously, the resident of Sweden was charged with espionage in favor of Russia. According to preliminary data, a 47-year-old citizen allegedly conveyed to the employee of the Russian embassy certain information and received about three thousand dollars for it. According to the current law, he faces up to six years of imprisonment.
