The United Nations (UN) predicted the date by which the number of women and men in the highest echelons of politics will be equal. According to the estimates of the association, this will happen in 130 years, said at an informal meeting of the UN Security Council, UN Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, quoted by RIA Novosti.
“At the current level of progress, achieving gender equality at the level of heads of state and government will take another 130 years,” she said, adding that the organization supports the participation of women in peace processes that take place with the participation of the union.
DiCarlo stressed that the UN itself should set an example in gender equality. For example, currently 57 percent of leadership positions in special political missions, including in Afghanistan and Iraq, are women.
