The Russian government manages to successfully fight the rise in food prices. This was stated by the official representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov, reports “Interfax”.
According to him, in general, the situation can be kept under control, although the market is being pressed by a number of factors pushing inflation. Peskov emphasized that the cabinet of ministers effectively “amortizes” the influence of these factors.
Earlier on March 9, the government announced that it would begin constant monitoring of prices for basic goods and services. Groups of goods and services are assigned to specific ministries and departments so that in the event of an unjustified rise in prices for them, they can propose response measures.
So, 12 items will fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture, including food and tobacco products. General monitoring is entrusted to the Ministry of Economic Development, Rosstat and the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).
Anatoly Vyborny, a State Duma deputy from United Russia, proposed another way to combat the rise in food prices. He drafted a bill to criminalize messages that differ from the official data on inflation. According to the deputy, stuffing about a serious rise in prices provokes panic demand and is one of the forms of market manipulation.
Prior to that, Bloomberg included Russia in the list of countries where a rise in food prices could lead to discontent from citizens and social tension.
