Norilsk Nickel announced that it had fully paid 146.2 billion rubles as compensation for the accident at the thermal power plant in Norilsk. This is stated in a message posted on the company’s website.
“Compensation for damage to water bodies in the amount of 145 492 562 907.96 rubles was directed to the federal budget. Compensation for soil damage in the amount of 684 904 320 rubles – to the income of the municipality – the city of Norilsk,” the message says. >
The payment was made on the basis of the decision of the Arbitration Court of the Krasnoyarsk Territory dated February 12, which partially satisfied the claim of Rosprirodnadzor against the subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel, the Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company (NTEK), and ordered to collect a record 146,177 million rubles from the company.
At the end of May 2020, an oil spill was recorded at TPP-3 in Norilsk. As a result of the depressurization of the tank, 20 thousand cubic meters of diesel fuel spilled out of it. Rosprirodnadzor estimated the damage at 147 billion rubles for water bodies and almost 739 million rubles for soil.
