Russia has developed a booby-trap rocket for drones. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to patent documents of scientists from the “Russian Federal Nuclear Center – All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics named after Academician EI Zababakhin” (RFNC-VNIITF) of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”.
According to the description of the patented invention, it consists of a missile with a guidance unit, delivering a container with a trap net placed in it, at the corners of which weights are attached. These weights help to stretch the net in flight and ensure the capture of the drone.
The creators of the project believe that existing in Russia similar projects to capture drones are ineffective against high-speed maneuverable UAVs. They note that their booster rocket will be able to cope with this task by increasing the initial speed of the cargo with attached pull lines, which are connected to the trap net, by lengthening the throwing barrels when the cargo leaves them.
Earlier it was reported that in Russia in the summer they will test the weapons of the heavy reconnaissance and strike unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) “Altius”. During the tests, it is planned to inflict from the UAV “the first airstrikes against targets at ranges with guided weapons of the” air-to-surface “class, including high-precision guided missiles and guided bombs.
