For more than two years, the use of the Gonets satellite communication system on fishing vessels has continued. During this time, the system operator, the Gonets satellite system (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation), was able to accumulate data on the operation of the Gonets ship stations, taking into account the feedback from the fishermen.
The “Gonets” terminal consists of two main components – a transmission receiving unit with a power controller and a backup battery and an antenna-feeder device. The Gonets ship stations passed the relevant tests and received the approval of the Maritime Register. The warranty period for the terminal is 18 months.
Since the beginning of 2019, fishing companies have received 297 units. ship stations “Gonets”, 248 of which are in constant operation in various fishing basins. The difference in numbers is explained by the fact that some shipowners, especially large ships, decided to purchase spare terminals, because Without regular transmission of data to the Center for Fisheries Monitoring and Communication of the Federal Agency for Fishery, the extraction of biological resources is prohibited, and going to the port for repair or installation of another station means interrupting the fishery. At the same time, the overwhelming majority of ships operate one terminal “Gonets”, which confirms the overall high reliability of the equipment.
Distribution of the Gonets stations in the fishing industry is carried out by the Center, which is the exclusive dealer of the Gonets satellite system. In accordance with the requests received from the fishermen, the equipment is distributed to authorized service organizations, where they are installed on ships and further serviced.
Important information is the statistics of ship station failures and their causes obtained by the Gonets Satellite System. For a little over two years, there have been no warranty cases of refusal. At the same time, the total number of failures of Gonets ship stations due to non-warranty cases amounted to 4.8% of the total number of sold terminals. Frequent reasons include non-observance of operating rules and attempts to maintain and repair equipment without the involvement of authorized organizations.

The Gonets system is the only domestic low-orbit communication system. It is capable of providing services on mobile objects, incl. on ships, anywhere in the world and guarantees the confidentiality of data transmission. On the basis of the Order of the Ministry of Agriculture No. 525, from December 1, 2019, all vessels engaged in the extraction of biological resources north of 75 ° N. and south of 75 ° S, must transmit position information using the Gonets ship stations.
