A resident of London accused the brand of racism due to a different salary with a white woman. A related story appeared on the Daily Mail.
Black model Atim Ojera explained that the brand, whose name the girl chose not to mention, offered to pay her “gifts” in exchange for ten advertising posts in her Instagram -account with 122 thousand subscribers. After the heroine explained that such a service would cost 10 thousand pounds (one million rubles), the brand withdrew its offer and refused to work on such conditions.
Later, Ohera learned that the aforementioned brand paid 20 thousand pounds (two million rubles) for the same number of publications on the page of another model with a light skin tone. “This girl has a lot less followers than me, it’s just ridiculous. Now I know for sure that this brand hates black women,” she said.
The girl added that this is not the first case of such an attitude on the part of employers. According to her, brands often want to do business with black models only through barter and do not want to pay money, regardless of the number of their followers.
In October 2020, a dark-skinned rapper was reproached for undermining the image of a luxury brand because of her skin color. In the video, the 28-year-old performer talks about a viral Twitter post stating that the brand’s accessories have “lost their value” due to their popularity with black women. The celebrity began to speculate on this topic and stated that it is unfair to focus on blacks, since white women also buy such accessories and are not criticized at the same time.
