A project session for students of Lomonosov gymnasium of Moscow State University has started at Energomash

In the Scientific and Production Association “Energomash” named after academician V.P. Glushko (part of the State Corporation “Roscosmos”) has started a project week for students of the Lomonosov gymnasium of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov – participants of the joint project with NPO Energomash “Promising methods of cooling the combustion chamber”.

The acquaintance of high school students with the NPO Energomash working group took place in October 2020 in a remote format. A group of specialists from the Design Bureau, headed by Dmitry Bulgakov, Head of the Sector for Maintaining Electronic Structure and Layout, introduced the children to the device of a liquid-propellant rocket engine and combustion chamber, and the theory of heat transfer. In the practical part in the format of distance learning, the guys tried to calculate and build the profile of the combustion chamber.

Valery Smetanin, Deputy General Director for Human Resources and Social Policy: “Last year did not allow to communicate with children in full-time mode. Therefore, today it is a significant event in its own way – we are starting the project week with the Moscow State University grammar school, where future mathematicians and engineers study Very motivated and interested guys – out of 9 participants in our project, 3 have already visited Sirius. But for now, these guys are only familiar with theory.

Energomash is the first enterprise they will visit, where they will see what the design of liquid-propellant rocket engines is, and how production is organized. We will definitely conduct an excursion for them, introduce them to the history and current tasks of the enterprise. And in the project we give them applied tasks that are important both for our holding of rocket propulsion engineering and for Roscosmos as a whole. “

As the head of the sector of digital design of complex DSE Roman Konovalov said, the project participants and the energy masters first saw each other in the face and fruitful work began immediately. Gymnasium students began to create electronic models of the combustion chamber based on the calculations that they prepared themselves.

“It can be seen that the guys are interested. And I am sure when the first visible fruits of their work appear – a prototype of the combustion chamber will be created in a three-dimensional model – their interest will only increase”, – Roman Konovalov is sure.

During the project week, the project participants will work together on the difficult task of reducing the temperature of the inner wall of the combustion chamber of engines. The task of the Energomash designers is to give the children enough knowledge and help to form those skills that will allow them to work more productively both in full-time and remotely.
