At the Zvezda shipyard, the laying of the next “green” tanker of the “Aframax” type with a deadweight of 114 thousand tons, which the shipyard is building for JSC “Rosnefteflot”, took place. This is the seventh vessel in a series of 12 tankers in the order book of SSK Zvezda, Rosneft said in a statement. The length of the tanker is 250 meters, the width is 44 meters, the deadweight is 114 thousand tons.
The contract for the construction of the tanker was signed by SSC in 2017 with State Transport Leasing Company JSC and Rosnefteflot JSC, a specialized subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, implementing projects in the field of maritime logistics. Metal cutting for Aframax began in the hull production block of the shipyard in February 2020, and the planned date for the delivery of the ship to the customer is 2022.
At a ceremony with the participation of the shipyard management, representatives of the customer, partner organizations and the workforce of the enterprise, General Director of SSK “Zvezda” Sergei Tseluiko and General Director of Rosnefteflot Oleg Tereshchenko attached a commemorative nameplate to the keel section of the future tanker. The ship will be named “Akademik Ivanter” – in honor of the outstanding Russian economist and forecaster and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Aframax tankers are the first vessels of this type to be built in Russia. They are designed for the transportation of crude oil and oil products in an unlimited navigation area. The vessel is designed in compliance with high environmental standards and in accordance with the new rules to limit emissions of sulfur oxides and greenhouse gases in the Baltic and North Seas: the main and auxiliary power plants can operate on environmentally friendly fuel – liquefied natural gas.
At the moment, 7 Aframax tankers are under construction at the Zvezda shipyard at various stages. The lead vessel of the series, after successful launching and passing sea trials, was handed over to the customer in December 2020.
