Able to complete the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the Akademik Chersky pipelayer left the German port of Wismar, at the berth of which he had been since the end of January. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the data of the global positioning system of ships.
The destination of the vessel is indicated as a high seas area. The Fortuna pipelayer continues to work in Danish waters. The German concern Uniper, which is the financial partner of Nord Stream 2, estimates the pipeline’s readiness to be 98 percent.
Earlier, the administration of US President Joe Biden was asked to “checkmate” the gas pipeline and continue pressure on European companies.
The construction of Nord Stream 2 was halted in December 2019 due to sanctions from Washington. In February 2021, Fortuna resumed laying pipes in Danish waters. Work on this section should be completed in April, and the pipeline will be fully completed by the end of the year. Earlier, at least 18 European companies refused to cooperate with Nord Stream 2 AG.
