Linux From Scratch 10.1 and Beyond Linux From Scratch 10.1 Released

New manual releases presented Linux From Scratch 10.1 (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch 10.1 (BLFS), as well as LFS and BLFS editions with the systemd system manager. Linux From Scratch provides instructions for building a basic Linux system from scratch using only the source code of the required software. Beyond Linux From Scratch complements the LFS instructions with information on building and configuring about 1000 software packages covering a variety of applications, from DBMS and server systems to graphical shells and media players.

Eudev 3.2.10, Grep 3.6, Inetutils 2.0, IPRoute2 5.10.0, Meson 0.57.1, Perl 5.32.1, Python 3.9.2, Tar 1.34, Tcl 8.6.11, Util-Linux 2.36.2, Vim 8.2.2433 , Zstd 1.4.8. Errors in loading scripts were fixed, editorial work was done in explanatory materials throughout the book.

Beyond Linux From Scratch 10.1 has updated about 850 programs, including GNOME 3.38, KDE Plasma 5.21, KDE Applications 20.12.2, LibreOffice 7.1, Fmpeg 4.3.2, GIMP 2.10.22, Inkscape 1.0.2, Thunderbird 78.8. 0, Firefox 78.8.0,
SeaMonkey 2.53.6 etc.

In addition to LFS and BLFS, the project has previously released several additional books:

  • Automated Linux From Scratch ” – a framework for automating LFS system building and package management;
  • Cross Linux From Scratch ” – description of cross-platform LFS-system assembly, supported architectures: x86, x86_64, sparc, mips, PowerPC, alpha , hppa, arm;
  • Hardened Linux From Scratch ” – instructions for hardening LFS, applying additional patches and restrictions;
  • LFS Hints ” – a selection of additional tips describing alternative solutions for the steps described in LFS and BLFS;
  • LFS LiveCD ” is a LiveCD preparation project. Currently not developing.
