In Russia, they are preparing to control prices for several more goods: we are talking about eggs and poultry meat. As RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture, producers, members of the Union of Poultry Farmers, have agreed to curb the rise in prices for products.
“Following the meeting, key industry representatives, members of the National Union of Poultry Farmers, noted the need to maintain the economic affordability of their products for the population and agreed to curb the rise in prices for poultry and eggs,” the ministry commented.
In mid-February, the Izvestia newspaper, citing a source in the market, reported that poultry farms offered retail chains to increase prices for poultry and eggs by 10 percent.
In response, the Ministry of Agriculture assured that the rise in prices for poultry and eggs in Russia will remain within the general food inflation. The authorities did not believe in the possibility of such a development of events, indicating that there were no prerequisites for aggravating the situation.
On March 1, First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov instructed the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) to check the rise in prices. He called for “to promptly check producers of chicken meat and chicken eggs for the justification of price increases and abuse of dominance.”
At the end of January, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that the agreements on stabilizing prices for sugar and sunflower oil, which the Russian authorities concluded with producers, gave the market a signal, so such an agreement would not be needed for eggs – they had decided not to limit prices for them yet .
