The accompanying packets Telegram Desktop for Fedora and RPM Fusion said about removing packages from repositories. The day before, the end of support for Telegram Desktop was also announced the maintainer of Gentoo packages. In both cases, it is declared that they are ready to return packages to the repositories in case a new maintainer is found for them, ready to take maintenance into their own hands.
The reasons for the refusal to support Telegram Desktop by the current maintainers are called the repulsive and hostile attitude of developers who do not even try to figure out the errors that lead to problems with building their sources in Linux distributions. Messages about such errors immediately are closed with the sign “WONTFIX” and a recommendation to use semi-proprietary binaries from the official site.
The situation is aggravated by the fact that problems that hinder the assembly of packages regularly surface in new releases, and all attempts to fix flaws in the upstream boil down to statements that developers only support their own static assemblies and all problems when creating your own assemblies should be solved independently … For example, support for assemblies with versions of Qt older than 5.15 was recently discontinued and all requests to somehow solve the problem were simply ignored.
The general confusion of the organization of the Telegram Desktop assembly is also noted, which complicates maintenance. The project is split into four different repositories (application, library for webrtc, assembly files and library for sound processing), but only one repository contains releases, and the other three are simply updated as development progresses. Additionally, the build is hampered by dependency conflicts when trying to provide support for Wayland and x11, PulseAudio and ALSA, OpenSSL and LibreSSL.
