The German gas company Wintershall Dea, which is one of the financial partners of Nord Stream 2, explained the importance of the project for Europe and the need to launch it as soon as possible. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the member of the board of the company responsible for its activities in Russia, Latin America, as well as for gas transmission projects, Tilo Wielanda.
He explained that Russian gas is the basis of European energy, and the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project will be useful for Europe in the medium and long term. Thus, the launch of the gas pipeline will increase liquidity in the market, strengthen the stability of the European infrastructure, ensure the stability of energy prices in the region, and will also help maintain competition.
Wintershall Dea is convinced that in the long term, Russian gas will not lose its importance for Europe, so the region needs to launch a project. “We are convinced that this pipeline is necessary for Europe,” Wieland said. According to the company, the construction of Nord Stream 2 will ultimately be completed, despite the threat of US sanctions. Currently, the pipeline is 95 percent ready.
Earlier it was reported that Wintershall Dea has completed its investment in Nord Stream 2. In total, over the years of cooperation, the company spent $ 730 million on it. Wintershall Dea CEO Mario Merena later expressed confidence that the project would be completed because Europe needs Russian gas amid declining production.
