Residents of Lithuania consider medical institutions to be the most corrupt structure in the country. This is reported by “Sputnik Lithuania” with reference to a study by the State Special Investigation Service (STT).
The majority of Lithuanians continue to consider corruption one of the most serious problems in the republic, despite the decrease in the number of citizens who admit to regularly using bribes to solve personal problems (9 percent). It is noted that among businessmen this figure does not exceed four percent, and among civil servants – one percent.
In addition to hospitals and clinics, residents of the country call the courts, parliament and municipal authorities the most corrupt institutions. Patronage of relatives and friends in them is defined in society as the most common form of corruption, according to the study.
In addition, over 70 percent of Lithuanians are convinced that a bribe remains a good way to solve the problem with the authorities. In case of problems with the law, up to 60 percent of respondents are ready to resort to it.
In total, within the framework of the study, 1006 ordinary residents of Lithuania, 510 company managers and 554 civil servants were interviewed. The survey was conducted from November 2020 to January 2021.
