The woman almost died due to an unsuccessful nose piercing. CBS New York reported.
According to the publication, a 37-year-old resident of Queens, New York, Dana Smith, pierced her nose and paid $ 60 (4.5 thousand rubles) for the procedure. About a month after the procedure, the woman developed abdominal pain, but she did not go to the hospital due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with the TV channel, the heroine of the material said that she also lost her appetite. Soon her symptoms worsened and she “began to vomit blood”.
On January 12, Sister Smith took the victim to Long Island Medical Center. Doctors diagnosed the woman with hepatitis B and reported that she needed an urgent liver transplant. The American woman spent two days in a medical coma before a suitable donor was found.
After the operation, the medical staff determined that the infection had entered the patient’s bloodstream due to a piercing in the nose. “I thought I just had a stomach virus or something like that. I would never have thought that my liver was failing and that I could die,” admitted Smith.
According to her, the decision to go to the hospital saved her from death. The American shared her story in the media to serve as an example for those who postpone a visit to the doctor. “Even if the coronavirus continues, you should still get tested, because you can never know for sure what is wrong with your health. This decision saved my life,” she concluded.
In October last year, the girl got pierced, almost lost her ear and was left with deformation. 19-year-old student Stell Blezard pierced her cartilage and discovered that she had developed inflammation a few hours after the procedure.
