Belarus is going to ask Russia for another loan. According to the Minister of Finance of the republic Yuri Seliverstov, Minsk and Moscow are now negotiating to raise money for infrastructure projects, BelTA informs.
“The issues of attracting credit resources, including in Russia for the implementation of joint projects, including infrastructure, have always been. Now such issues are also being worked out. Infrastructure needs to be developed,” he commented, but did not specify what amount is in question and also did not mention the time frame for its receipt.
Seliverstov also added that Minsk hopes to receive the second tranche of the previous Russian loan in the first half of this year. An agreement on the provision of a Russian loan for a billion dollars to Belarus was signed on December 21, 2020. The first tranche of the loan in the amount of $ 500 million was received by the Ministry of Finance on December 30.
Earlier in February, the Belarusian Ministry of Finance denied rumors about a request from Russia for a loan of $ 3 billion at the expense of the remaining funds of a previously provided loan for the construction of the BelNPP. The head of the republic, Alexander Lukashenko, thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for helping the country’s economy.
Earlier it was reported that Russia will provide Belarus with a loan of $ 1.5 billion. Moreover, part of the allocated funds will go to repay previous loans from Russia.
