The European Union is going to quickly get its first single military doctrine, it is going to be adopted by March 2022. This is stated in a statement published on the website of the EU summit.
The heads of state will accelerate the development of the bloc’s military concept. It will be called the “EU Strategic Compass”. The statement emphasizes that the commonwealth is subject to new and growing threats and trials.
“To fight them, protect its citizens and strengthen its strategic autonomy and become a stronger global player, the EU needs to determine what kind of actor it will be in the field of security and defense,” the document says.
It is planned to analyze threats and hold meetings with member countries, and then develop the concept during 2021, so that by next spring it has already entered into force.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell reported last November that the development of a single concept was already underway. Then it was announced that in form it would resemble the NATO concept. It was noted that the concept will provide European countries with greater independence.
