Elon Musk has promised to double the speed of Starlink satellite Internet in 2021. The entrepreneur stated this in his Twitter .
Answering the questions of the first satellite Internet users, Musk said that the data transfer rate through Starlink equipment in 2021 will increase to 300 megabits per second. He also noted that the signal latency will drop to 20 milliseconds by the end of the year. Earlier, the owner of a satellite dish from the company Ilona Mask said that the peak data transfer rate is about 130 megabits per second.
In a conversation with users, the entrepreneur announced the expansion of Starlink coverage to almost the entire territory of the Earth until the end of 2021. Musk clarified that plans to compact the coverage for the entire planet are scheduled for 2022.
In addition, Elon Musk noted that, first of all, Starlink is focused on regions with low and medium population density. “It’s important to note that cellular communications will always have an edge in densely populated urban areas,” concluded the SpaceX founder.
On January 24, Elon Musk’s SpaceX successfully launched a rocket with 143 Starlink satellites. The cost of launching a satellite weighing 200 kilograms cost the company about a million dollars. The first group of satellites of the global network project Starlink, designed to provide Internet access in various regions of the world, was launched in May 2019.
