The head of Rosrybolovstvo, Ilya Shestakov, assured that there are sufficient capacities for storing fish in Russia, and there are no plans to suspend fishing, TASS reports. This is how the department reacted to the information that some regions have agreed to store their own fish in Japan due to problems with the shipment of products in the ports of China.
According to Shestakov, the current situation is not a stalemate. “We looked closely and thought that perhaps by March 1 we would not have enough capacities for storing fish products and we would have to, in fact, stop fishing. But now the situation is leveling off,” he commented. Shestakov added that at the moment 80 percent of the capacity is vacant, this is about 120 thousand tons, and it is also possible to store products on transport ships.
Earlier on Thursday, February 25, it became known that the authorities of Kamchatka agreed with Japan on the temporary storage of caught fish on its territory. The head of the region, Vladimir Solodov, said that due to the bans on supplies to China, almost all refrigeration capacities were already loaded, so they had to turn to neighboring states for help.
China suspended services for foreign ships in the port of Dalian in December 2020. The reason for this was the detection of coronavirus in several loaders of the port terminal. This port was the last one accessible to Russian fish vessels.
