Linux boot issue on Intel NUC7PJYH popped up after BIOS update 0058

Owners of Intel NUC7PJYH mini-computer based on CPU ex-Atom Intel Pentium J5005 Gemini Lake faced with a problem with Linux and Unix-like operating systems after updating BIOS to version 0058. Up to using BIOS 0057 with Linux, FreeBSD , NetBSD had no problems (there was a separate problem with OpenBSD), but after updating the BIOS to version 0058 on this computer, due to a problem with ACPI, a crash occurred when using Linux and Unix-like operating systems. Licensed Windows 10 worked fine on this computer.

The bug report was posted on the official Intel NUC forum in mid-January 2021. The bug was confirmed by about ten users who faced a similar problem after updating. Intel removed version 0058 from the Software Download Center and suggested replacing the hardware or waiting for the BIOS update. On February 25, 2021, on the Intel NUC forum, they announced the appearance of a new BIOS, which is still available to a limited number of beta testers. If test takers confirm a solution to the problem, the new BIOS version will be available to everyone shortly.
