The head of the Japanese carmaker Suzuki, Osamu Suzuki, will leave the company after 40 years in various management positions, Kyodo reports.
Suzuki will leave his current post in June after the general meeting of shareholders. In doing so, he will be appointed to the position of senior advisor.
Suzuki’s son Toshihiro is expected to become the new head of Suzuki. He has already made several policy statements, in particular, said that the company will have to “respond to the turn of the world towards reducing carbon emissions.”
91-year-old Osamu Suzuki took his current surname after he married the granddaughter of the company’s founder Michio Suzuki. He began his career at Suzuki in 1958, and took up a leading position for the first time in 1978.
Since then, Suzuki has served as President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors. He will stay in the last capacity until June.
