In the waters of Fukushima Prefecture in Japan, fish contaminated with radiation was caught for the first time in two years. The NHK channel reports this with reference to the local fishing association.
According to the channel, the infection of the caught and tested sea bass was five times higher than the standard safe level. The content of radioactive cesium was exceeded. Because of this find, the fishermen decided to completely stop fishing for this species in the waters of the prefecture, where the nuclear power plant survived the accident is located.
On February 14, it became known about the leakage of radioactive water from the nuclear power plant. Earlier in the day, it was reported that a massive earthquake hit northeastern Japan.
The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.1, the epicenter was recorded in the area of Fukushima prefecture. The number of victims of the disaster exceeded 100.
In 2011, an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 occurred in about the same place, as a result of which more than 18 thousand people died, as well as an accident at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant. A spokesman for Japan’s National Meteorological Office said the tremors were the aftershock of 2011.
