Russia has sent humanitarian aid worth a million dollars (approximately 74.6 million rubles) to financially vulnerable families of schoolchildren in Tajikistan, Sputnik News reports. The funds are allocated under the UN World Food Program (WFP).
The Russian Embassy in Dushanbe said that food distributions have already begun in the southern part of the country. In total, they will provide food for about 22 thousand families in need, the UN school feeding program in Tajikistan covers more than 600 thousand primary school students.
“Until the end of the month, families living in the Sughd and Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Regions, the city of Rogun, as well as the Rasht Valley will receive support. This became possible thanks to the allocation of an additional targeted contribution by Russia to the WFP Fund in the amount of $ 1 million,” Russian diplomats said in a statement.
