A fire test of RD-0124MS engine chamber was carried out in Voronezh

The Voronezh rocket engine-building center (part of the integrated rocket engine-building structure headed by NPO Energomash of the State Corporation Roscosmos) has successfully conducted the first fire test of the standard chamber of the RD-0124MS rocket engine, created at the enterprise for use in the second stage of a promising domestic launch vehicle “Soyuz-5”.

The camera is manufactured using units manufactured by the method of new technologies, which open up great opportunities for reducing labor intensity, increasing labor productivity and manufacturing quality of products in rocket engine building. During the test, one turn-on was carried out with a duration of 50 seconds at the rated thrust mode. The test program was completed in full.

Director of the Chemical Automatics Design Bureau Sergey Kovalev: “The past test marked the beginning of ground fire testing of the new RD-0124MS engine and its components. From the first attempt we got a positive result and achieved the intended goals for developing the chamber. This confirms the loyalty of the design solutions laid down, the effectiveness of the new technologies being introduced, as well as the general readiness of the company’s stand base to continue work on this topic. “
The chief designer of the enterprise Viktor Gorokhov: “Over the next few months, several more firing launches will be carried out on the tested chamber to collect and analyze the experimental data we need. In parallel, preparations are underway for the final tests of the fully equipped engine and for firing bench tests. products as part of the second stage of the launch vehicle.

The RD-0124MS rocket engine with a thrust in a void of 60 tons runs on “liquid oxygen + naphthyl” propellants and is intended for use in the second stage of the Soyuz-5 rocket. It consists of two blocks located on a common frame, and each of the blocks includes two chambers. The engine provides rocking of the chambers in two planes, as well as operation when one of the units is turned off, including at a reduced thrust mode.
