Gazprom’s board of directors unanimously re-elected the current chairman of the board, Alexey Miller, for another five years from May 31, 2021. This was reported in the official Telegram channel of the company.
Miller has been heading the company since 2001. The last time his powers were extended on February 16, 2016. At the end of December, Kommersant announced the decision to dismiss him after another deadline in May.
The company declined to comment on this message, stating that they do not know who the source of the publication was, and therefore they have nothing to deny or confirm.
The article said that Miller has been dismissed for several years, but the situation in 2020 was aggravated by the poor financial situation of Gazprom. According to international financial reporting standards (IFRS), in January-September the company’s loss amounted to 202 billion rubles against a profit of 1.1 trillion a year earlier.
The source of the publication indicated that the head of Gazprom will leave after the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. The company currently expects work to be completed by the end of the year. However, putting the route into operation is complicated by the refusal of many European companies to cooperate with the project.
The report of the US Secretary of State to Congress indicated that at least 18 European companies withdrew from the Nord Stream 2 project, assessing the risks of imposing sanctions against them.
