The coronavirus pandemic will be brought under control in the fall of 2021. This prediction was made in an interview with Augsburger Allgemein by the head of the Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine of Germany Gernot Marx.
“If now it is possible to vaccinate all residents soon, then perhaps we will take control of the situation with coronavirus at the end of the third quarter of 2021,” said the German specialist.
He drew attention to the fact that almost all Germans must make a vaccine for this. Otherwise, new mutations of SARS-CoV-2 will appear, and then such a scenario will not be realized.
Vaccination in Germany began at the end of December 2020. As of mid-February, more than 4.8 million people had been vaccinated in the country.
On February 10, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the extension of the lockdown, introduced in the country last November, until March 7. She announced that the third wave of coronavirus has already emerged, and it is necessary to fight it. According to the politician, the German authorities have already received the first reports of virus mutations. So, the government realizes that the number of strains is growing, and the only question is how quickly their number is increasing.
