The head of the US National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, said Americans may have to wear masks in public until 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic, writes Reuters.
Fauci predicted that outbreaks of the disease will continue to occur in the country for a long time, but mass vaccinations will allow the authorities to gradually remove existing sanitary restrictions.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden promised to vaccinate almost all Americans by the end of July. According to him, by this time it is planned to receive vaccine doses for 300 million inhabitants of the country. The President clarified that the United States is currently stocking up on the required amount of the drug.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the United States has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the world, as well as the most deaths. As of February 21, more than 28 million infections and more than 497 thousand deaths associated with coronavirus have been detected in the country.
