A melted glacier in the state of Uttarakhand in India has killed dozens of people. This is reported by The Hindu.
It is noted that only on February 20, at the Tapovan hydroelectric power station, five bodies were found, four of which were identified. According to the latest data, a total of 67 bodies and 28 body parts were found. Of these, 37 bodies were identified. 137 people are reported missing.
The glacier that melted on February 7 also led to a rise in the water level in the Rishiganga River, which washed away the hydroelectric power station of the same name. The flash flood also damaged the NTPC hydropower plant under construction in Tapovan. When the flooding began there, there were 30-35 people in the technical tunnel.
12 State Department of Emergency Response teams continue to search for bodies along rivers. It is noted that the search operation involves national and local rescuers, Indo-Tibetan police officers and the military.
On February 7, 150 were reported missing and seven people whose death was confirmed. These are the workers of the Rishiganga hydroelectric power station. They cannot be contacted.
