Xiaomi has announced a partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). A representative of a technology company told Lenta.ru about this.
It is alleged that Xiaomi will transfer a thousand rubles for the care of the environment from each sold smartphone of the Mi 10T series, purchased from February 21 to March 21. These funds will participate in a grant competition and will be used to support nature reserves and national parks.
Among the nominations in the competition are innovative approaches to the conservation of rare species of animals, preservation of key ecosystems and habitats, environmental education and ecotourism, adaptation to climate change.
“This year, our most important environmental initiative in Russia was cooperation with WWF. Our company has become a partner of the traditional Contest of grants for reserves and national parks – winners in some nominations of the competition will receive grants from Xiaomi. I hope that our participation in the program will contribute a serious contribution to the preservation of the beauty of Russian nature and rare animals that live in the country, “said the head of Xiaomi in Russia and the CIS Yu Man.
Xiaomi Mi 10T is the current flagship of the company
The Xiaomi Mi 10T line was presented in Russia in December 2020. It includes two smartphones: Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro. Both devices received a 6.67-inch IPS-screen with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 hertz. In the corner of the display there is a cutout for the front 20-megapixel camera.
The gadgets received a Snapdragon 865 processor, eight gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of internal memory, support for Wi-Fi 6, NFC. The rear panel of the devices houses a triple camera: Mi 10T has sensors with a resolution of 64, 13 and 5 megapixels, Mi 10T Pro – 108, 13 and 5 megapixels. In addition, six long exposure modes are available in the camera application, as well as the ability to record video from the main and front cameras simultaneously.
Both devices get a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. The base Mi 10T was estimated at 45 thousand rubles, the top-end Mi 10T Pro – at 50 thousand rubles. At the end of December, Xiaomi announced Mi 11, but this smartphone is only available in China and the release date in Russia is unknown.
This is not the first environmental project of Xiaomi and WWF
In 2019, Xiaomi took part in WWF’s snow leopard conservation program, providing the foundation with equipment for monitoring the snow leopard population. Thus, WWF employees received 30 Mi A2 Lite smartphones with special software and a portable battery Mi Power Bank 2 with a capacity of 10 thousand milliampere-hours.
Before that, experts manually recorded data about animals (their tracks, number, landscape and weather data with coordinates). After launching the project, all information was transferred automatically and processed on the server. This is the first time leopards have been counted using a special mobile app.
In addition, in 2020 Xiaomi announced plans to reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging by 60 percent and the Mi 10T was the first step towards that.
