New COVID-19 strain detected in Norway

A new strain of coronavirus, dubbed B.1.525, was discovered in Norway. This was reported by the NRK TV and radio company with reference to the National Institute of Public Health.

It is also indicated that about ten cases of infection with the B.1.525 strain are known in the last 24 hours in Norway. “We do not yet know if it is more contagious, but it is likely,” said the head of the institute’s department, Line Vold.

She noted that various strains of the coronavirus have already been identified in Norway, which typically change over time.

Earlier, Yle TV reported that a new strain of coronavirus, dubbed Fin-796H, was discovered in Finland. According to doctors, the new version of the infection contains mutations that are observed in the British and South African strains. The mutation is believed to have developed somewhere outside Finland.

Since the beginning of December 2020, it has become known about the emergence of new mutated strains of SARS-CoV-2 from the UK, South Africa, Israel and Brazil. These variants of the virus appear to spread more easily, and this could lead to an increase in cases, deaths and hospitalizations.
