Outbreak of bubonic plague begins in Africa

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, an outbreak of bubonic plague has begun. This is reported by Jeune Afrique with reference to the statement of the head of the health department of Ituri province Patrick Karamura.

In addition, cases of pneumonic and septic plague have been recorded in the African country. According to the latest data, more than 520 people are infected, 31 died.

According to Anna Lodisua, an epidemiologist at the New York-based Ecohealth Alliance NGO, cases of infection began to appear from November 15 to December 13, 2020. The average age of the infected is 13 years old, the oldest among the cases is 73 years old.
