Cooperation with Russia has a special place in Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy, President Sadyr Zhaparov wrote in his article “Allied Ties” about relations between the two countries. RIA Novosti reports.
“The course of bringing relations with Russia to the highest level of alliance, strategic partnership meets the national interests of Kyrgyzstan. We are convinced that there is no alternative to strengthening cooperation, and this area is given a key place in the republic’s foreign policy,” wrote Japarov.
According to him, in the history of relations between the Kyrgyz and Russian peoples, there have never been problems that could create preconditions for alienation.
Zhaparov noted that for Kyrgyzstan the issue of the place and role of Russia is of a practical nature and is determined by national interests. According to the President of Kyrgyzstan, “thanks to integration projects and its power, Russia provides peace along the perimeter of the state border, forms a dynamically developing region around itself.”
He expressed confidence that his upcoming visit to Russia will contribute to strengthening relations and developing bilateral cooperation.
On January 28, at the inauguration ceremony, Zhaparov thanked Russia for helping to stabilize the situation after the October events. He promised that Kyrgyzstan will continue to pursue a multi-vector policy, strengthening relations with strategic partners.
On January 16, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kyrgyzstan announced the victory of Japarov in the early presidential elections with 79.23 percent of the vote. While still a presidential candidate, Japarov described post-election relations with Russia. He stated: “This is our most important strategic partner.” If he wins the elections, he promised to “continue this”.
