U.S. Congresswoman joins online meeting amid weapons collection

Congresswoman Lauren Bobert, Rep. from Colorado, joined the online meeting sitting in front of a cabinet with a collection of firearms. The meeting discussed a ban on members of Congress from bringing weapons to the Capitol, imposed after the January 6 uprising, USA Today reports.

In the shot from the Zoom broadcast, you can see that behind Bobert, on a shelf, are two assault rifles and a shotgun. Other members of the lower house were outraged that she spoke against such a background: some even said that this was a violation of the recently adopted rule on weapons in meetings.

She was also accused of unsafe possession of weapons: Bobert is the mother of four children, and they live in the same house with a firearm. “Storage? Oh no, it’s all ready to use,” the politician retorted, emphasizing that she had deliberately put the weapons on the shelves for the meeting.

Bobert has previously drawn media attention by insisting that she has the right to carry weapons to work – especially after supporters of President Donald Trump tried to take over the building.

The storming of the Capitol in the United States took place on January 6 during a rally of supporters of the current head of state who do not recognize the results of the November vote, which resulted in Biden being elected president. The rallies resulted in clashes with police, killing four protesters and one policeman. More than 200 participants were charged with breaking the law.
