The Prosecutor General of Belarus Andrei Shved called the case against the former rival of Alexander Lukashenko for the presidency of Viktor Babariko and other top managers of Belgazprombank as a criminal case. It is reported by “Interfax – West”.
“A fairly large array of evidence has been collected, indicating that this is an absolutely corrupt case, this is pure criminality,” the Prosecutor General said.
He added that the investigation was carried out absolutely objectively and impartially, and almost all the accused, except for ex-head of the Belgazprombank board Babariko, pleaded guilty and are cooperating with the investigation.
The Supreme Court of Belarus began on February 17 to consider the “Belgazprombank case”.
The meeting is taking place in the court of the Moskovsky district of Minsk. It is attended by Babariko’s supporters, foreign diplomats and the press.
Six former deputy chairmen of the bank have been charged with taking bribes on an especially large scale.
Babariko, according to the investigation, created a criminal group out of his deputies “with the aim of systematically obtaining illegal monetary rewards from representatives of commercial structures.”
