Oracle has published an operating system update Solaris 11.4 SRU 30 (Support Repository Update), which offers a series of regular fixes and improvements for the Solaris 11.4 branch. To install the fixes proposed in the update, simply run the ‘pkg update’ command.
In the new release:
- Added support for the UMIP (User Mode Instruction Prevention) protection mechanism provided by Intel processors. When this mode is enabled at the CPU level in user space, certain instructions such as SGDT, SLDT, SIDT, SMSW, and STR, which can be used in attacks aimed at elevating privileges on the system, are prohibited from executing.
- New branches of Python 3.9 and Perl 5.32.0 languages are included.
- Added klog support to vds (virtual disk server) driver.
- HMP (Hardware Management Pack) updated up to version 2.4.7.1.
- New Python modules are included to support libxml2, mod_wsgi and net-snmp.
- Added package with libpng 1.6 library.
- Updated Oracle VM Server for SPARC 3.6.2 with support for maintaining audit records in LDoms, significant performance gains for all vsan MASK operations, klog support, and multi-tier PVLAN.
- Individual components of the GNOME desktop (gnome-menus, gsettings-desktop-schemas, yelp) have been updated prior to releases 3.36 and 3.38.
- Many packages have been updated, including LLVM / Clang 11.0.0, CUPS 2.3.3, OpenSSH 8.2, dconf 0.38.0, gupnp 1.0.6, lftp 4.9.2, libnotify 0.7.9, mod_jk 1.2.48, mod_wsgi 4.7.1, nss 3.57, pulseaudio 13.99.1, tcsh 6.22.03, xorg-driver-vesa 2.5.0.
- Updated versions of programs with fixing vulnerabilities: Ant 1.10.9, Firefox 78.6.0esr, Node.js 12 12.19.1, OpenSSL 1.1.1i, Samba 4.13.1, Thunderbird 78.6.0, openldap2.4.55, pip 20.2. 4, Ghostscript 9.53.3, libpng, libxml, sudo, tcpdump, vnc, xorg-server.
