Representative from Illinois, Republican Adam Kinzinger, who voted to impeach former US President Donald Trump, lamented the family that rejected him, which did not accept his choice, reports The New York Times.
As Kinzinger said, two days after he called for the removal of Trump from the presidency after the storming of the Capitol, his relatives sent him a letter. In it, they stated that Kinzinger was in league with the “army of the devil,” and also expressed disappointment in him. “You put the name Kinzinger to shame!” – the politician’s relatives wrote.
The deputy himself said that the relatives who wrote the letter suffer from “brainwashing”. “I have nothing against them. But I have no desire or need to fix the relationship. This is 100 percent their task, and, frankly, I don’t care if they do it or not,” he added.
The second impeachment trial against Trump began in the Senate on February 9. On January 14, the House of Representatives voted to impeach the 45th President over the riots in Washington. It was the first time in the United States that an attempt to remove a former president from office after the end of his term of office was made. On February 13, 57 senators voted to impeach Trump, this number was not enough to issue an indictment, and the Senate acquitted the former president.
The storming of the Capitol in the United States took place on January 6 during a rally of supporters of the current head of state, who do not recognize the results of the November vote, which resulted in Biden being elected president. The rallies led to clashes with the police. Five people were killed, dozens were detained. The Democrats accused the president of inciting mutiny, which was the reason for the impeachment proceedings.
