Israel has blocked the supply of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper.
The Palestinian Health Minister said 2,000 doses intended for health workers were seized at an Israeli checkpoint in the West Bank.
A source in the Israeli security forces told the newspaper that the Palestinian authorities had previously sent a request to the Israeli National Security Council, but it is still under consideration. “This does not mean that Israel refused it. The allegations that we refused to transport the vaccines do not correspond to reality,” the source said.
Palestine became the first state in the Middle East to approve the Russian coronavirus vaccine. It was reported that the country intends to purchase 100 thousand doses of Sputnik V, another 10 thousand doses will be provided to it free of charge.
