Japanese doctors will throw away about every sixth vaccine from the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer. The reason for this is the design of the jar in which the drug is stored, Cabinet Secretary General Katsunobu Kato said at a press conference in Tokyo, Reuters reports.
Kato explained that the bottle is designed in such a way that a special syringe is required to use it. An ordinary syringe can pump out only five of the six doses contained there, and the rest has to be thrown away.
“We are trying to stock up on these special syringes,” the politician assured. However, he stressed that it is not so easy to get them, and because of this, the deployment of vaccination with the American drug will reach the level to which it was planned to be brought, only in about 5 months. About 12 million people will not receive their dose in the first wave of vaccinations.
In January, the World Health Organization (WHO) assessed the danger of a new mutation of the coronavirus, which was discovered in Japan.
