Scientists have found a new species of reptile that lived 230 million years ago

Scientists from Argentina have found in the province of La Rioja in the west of the country, fragments of the skeleton of an ancient reptile that lived 230 million years ago. This was reported by the agency for the popularization of science at the University of Matans CTyS-UNLaM.

In the Talampaya National Park, fragments of the skull, jaw, parts of the thigh and sacrum, as well as the vertebrae of the tail of a rhinhosaurus were found. According to researchers, this species of four-legged herbivores reached three meters in length.

According to scientists, the belly of the rhynchosaurus was pressed to the ground, like in modern lizards, and the legs were located on the sides of the body. They also had a bony beak for processing food, unlike most reptiles.

In November 2020, first grader Dmitry Sirenko found the remains of an ichthyosaur when he was walking along the coast in the Primorsky Territory with friends. The boy was examining the stones when he noticed a shattered slab. It turned out to be something similar to the remains.
