The Russian Ministry of Defense is preparing to receive the Project 09852 Belgorod nuclear submarine, which is the longest submarine in the world, Izvestia writes.
The newspaper notes that the length of the nuclear submarine reaches 180 meters. The publication assures that this “submarine can be considered the last submarine of the departed superpower.” “Although the nuclear submarine was officially laid down after the collapse of the Soviet Union, on July 24, 1992, in fact, its construction began earlier,” the publication says.
The newspaper reminds that “Belgorod” will become the first regular carrier of nuclear torpedoes “Poseidon” (“Doomsday” weapons), with the help of which “a retaliatory nuclear strike can be delivered on the territory of a potential enemy if he attacks first.” “The highest population density and the largest cities and industrial centers are located near the coastline. A nuclear explosion of enormous power near the enemy’s territory, in addition to the damaging factors themselves, will also cause a tsunami,” the newspaper assures.
According to the newspaper, in addition to Poseidon, this nuclear submarine can receive, in particular, the autonomous unmanned vehicle Harpsichord-2R-PM and nuclear deep-sea stations (like the AS-31 Losharik).
In June 2020, Forbes wrote that the Khabarovsk nuclear submarines of project 09851 and the Belgorod of project 09852 are the most secret Russian submarines.
