The chairman of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of Belarus, Lidiya Yermoshina, named the best time for a referendum on the Constitution. Tut.by informs about it.
Yeromoshyna refused to name the exact time, but noted that it could be combined with local elections, which should be held no later than January 18, 2022.
“Therefore, the referendum will be held at the same time. Most likely, this is the end of this year. It is better to do this in mid-December,” she said.
In her opinion, elections and voting in a referendum are very easy to combine, because these are two ballots. “On the contrary, this is the most profitable option. Our referendum, as a rule, was combined with the election campaign. Suffice it to recall the 2004 referendum – this is combined with the parliamentary elections.
On February 11, speaking at the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that during this year the draft Constitution will be ready, and at the beginning of 2022 it will be submitted to a referendum. He noted that, having adopted it, many laws will have to be changed. And then, according to Lukashenka, the question of “when will he leave” will be resolved.
According to him, the powers of the president will be radically redistributed, since at the moment they are difficult for one person. At the same time, Belarus should remain a presidential republic, Lukashenko believes.
