American and Egyptian archaeologists have discovered the oldest brewery in the world. This is reported by The Guardian.
She operated in the ancient Egyptian city of Abydos, which was located on the western bank of the Nile, more than 450 kilometers from modern Cairo. During the excavations, eight 20-meter structures were found with dozens of ceramic bowls, where a mixture of grain and water was heated during the preparation of beer.
Experts have dated the brewery to the period of Pharaoh Narmer, who ruled at the end of the XXXI century BC and is known for the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. British archaeologists found out about its existence at the beginning of the 20th century, but they never managed to find it. The beer may have been used for rituals involving the pharaoh.
Earlier it was reported that Egyptian archaeologists discovered two relics that belonged to King Ptolemy V Epiphanes and his wife Cleopatra. Scientists have found long stone slabs with texts and images in the Kom Ombo Temple (Upper Egypt), which is the only surviving structure of the ancient city of Nubit.
