Michael Ryan, Director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Emergency Program, praised the idea of introducing travel covid passports amid the spread of COVID-19. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Ryan said that there is still not enough data on the impact of vaccines on the spread of coronavirus. In addition, immunity certificates are currently not recommended as required for international travel, said a WHO spokesman.
According to him, coronavirus vaccines are not available to everyone right now, so such measures will limit, rather than open up, travel opportunities. “Secondly, we don’t have enough data right now to understand whether vaccination will help stop transmission of the virus,” Ryan concluded.
In January, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that the European Union (EU) had thought about passports for those vaccinated against coronavirus. In addition, the head of the European Council spoke about the possibility that only those vaccinated against coronavirus will be allowed to travel to the EU. He noted that this is a very sensitive topic, since in this case, in many European countries, they may decide that vaccination will actually become mandatory.
