After three years since the last update release of the Siduction 2021.1 project, which develops a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on the Debian Sid (unstable) package base. It is noted that the preparation of a new release began about a year ago, but in April 2020, the key developer of the Alf Gaida project, about which since so far nothing has been heard and other developers have not been able to figure out what happened. Nevertheless, the team managed to gather strength and continue development with the remaining forces.
Siduction is a fork of Aptosid , which split in July 2011. The key difference from Aptosid is the use of a newer version of KDE from the experimental Qt-KDE repository as the user environment, as well as the formation of assemblies a distribution kit based on fresh versions of Xfce, LXDE, GNOME, Cinnamon, MATE and LXQt, as well as a minimalist X.Org assembly based on the Fluxbox window manager and a “noX” assembly supplied without a graphical environment for users who want to compose their own system.
In the new release, the versions of the KDE Plasma 5.20.5 desktops (with the transfer of some components from the 5.21 branch), LXQt 0.16.0, Cinnamon 4.8.6, Xfce 4.16 and Lxde 10 have been updated. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.10.15, and the system manager Systemd up to 247. The package base is in sync with the Debian Unstable repository as of February 7th. Improved installer based on Calamares framework. In the Xorg and noX assemblies, the iwd Wi-Fi daemon is used to configure the connection to wireless networks.
