Pelosi saw no point in blaming Trump after failing impeachment

Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi saw no point in formally censuring former President Donald Trump after the failure of his impeachment. RIA Novosti reports her words at a press conference.

“Scolding will not hold anyone accountable. Well, all the cowardly senators who could not adequately treat what President [Trump] did, and what was at stake for our country, will now have the opportunity to slightly spank his hand? ” she asked.

It is noted that formal censure is considered a serious measure against any US citizen, which does not have any practical consequences.

Earlier, the US Senate acquitted Donald Trump in the framework of impeachment. 57 senators voted for impeachment, 43 voted against. 67 votes out of 100 were required to issue an indictment. Thus, the initiative did not receive the required number of votes.

The second impeachment trial against Trump began in the Senate on February 9. On January 14, the House of Representatives voted to impeach the former owner of the White House in connection with the riots in Washington. This is the first time the US has attempted to remove a state leader from office after the end of his presidential term.
