US President Joe Biden said that the essence of the charges against former head of state Donald Trump is beyond doubt. This was reported on the White House website.
Biden noted that although the final vote in the Senate did not lead to a conviction of Trump, the essence of the accusations remains valid. The American leader once again noted that the storming of the Capitol is a “sad page” in US history.
The head of the United States also added that in the Senate, even those who opposed the impeachment of Trump believe that the former president is guilty of “shameful neglect of his duty”, and also has a “practical and moral responsibility for provoking” violence during riots in Washington.
Earlier, Trump called the failed impeachment process one of the stages of the “greatest witch hunt” in the history of the country. The former American leader noted that no US president had ever had to go through something like this.
On February 13, the US Senate acquitted the former president through impeachment. 57 senators voted for impeachment, 43 voted against. 67 votes out of 100 were required to issue an indictment. Thus, the initiative did not receive the required number of votes.
The second impeachment trial against Trump began in the Senate on February 9. On January 14, the House of Representatives voted to impeach the former owner of the White House in connection with the riots in Washington. This is the first time the US has attempted to remove a state leader from office after the end of his presidential term.
