The Kremlin said that the situation with the standard of living in Russia remains tense. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov gave an assessment of what was happening, Interfax quoted him as saying.
Peskov reacted to the Rosstat data, which showed that the income of Russians at the end of 2020 fell by 3.5 percent. “Undoubtedly, this is the statistic that shows the need for further coordinated work,” he stated. “Indeed, while the situation in this regard is quite tense, indeed, there is an undesirable tendency as of last year. Work is underway,” Peskov added.
Earlier in February, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade Maxim Reshetnikov said that citizens’ incomes would recover in the third or fourth quarters of this year. He connected such hopes with the gradual easing of restrictions that had to be introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic.
