President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that the “global protest” that has engulfed many countries poses a threat to international security, as it is capable of “turning the planet around,” RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, the protests became a reflection of the systemic political and social crisis on Earth, which is capable of destroying “the foundations of the existing world order.” “The time has come to bring this topic to the international level, before the planet turns over,” Lukashenka warned.
He added that the Belarusian authorities have recently learned “to bring positions closer and work out solutions to common problems.” This is demonstrated by a number of peaceful international initiatives that are being considered with the mediation of Minsk, the head of state noted.
In Belarus, protests have continued for the seventh month after the presidential elections on August 9, 2020. The actions are harshly suppressed by the police and riot police. Tens of thousands of people were detained, and many spoke of torture and beatings in isolation wards. Four people were killed in clashes with security forces. Dozens of people were sentenced to prison.
